About

Where the first Stable Video Diffusion checkpoint stopped at 14 frames, this XT release was fine-tuned to output 25 frames at 576 by 1024 from one conditioning image. The Hub repo holds two weight files of about 9.5 GB each: the default uses a VAE decoder retuned for frame-to-frame consistency, the alternative the standard per-frame image decoder. Stability measured around three minutes per clip on an A100 80GB at launch defaults; in Diffusers, offloading and small decode chunks bring memory toward consumer cards at the cost of speed and some flicker. There is no text prompt at all, so results depend on the source image plus motion and frame-rate hints, and the model card warns about weak faces, unreadable text, and occasional near-static output. Stability's reference scripts add an invisible watermark to outputs by default. A later 1.1 revision sits behind a click-through gate on the Hub. Weights fall under the Stability AI Community License, free for research and personal work and open to registered commercial users whose organizations earn under 1 million US dollars a year. Suited to image-to-video prototyping.

Should you use Stable Video Diffusion XT?

Pick it when

Pick SVD-XT when you want to turn one still into a 25-frame 576x1024 clip with steadier frames than base SVD, for product spins or subtle scene motion, and your revenue sits under Stability's community license limit.

Look elsewhere when

Skip it if you need prompt control, longer shots, or a license without a revenue cap: it is image-only, clips stay short, and Wan 2.1's image-to-video model or FramePack offer Apache-2.0 terms.

Alternatives to Stable Video Diffusion XT

  • Stable Video Diffusion

The 14-frame base model, plus SV3D and SV4D in the same repository if you need novel-view or 4D outputs instead of longer clips.

  • FramePack

Animates a still for up to 60 seconds on 6 GB under Apache-2.0, far longer than 25 frames, with a one-click Windows package.

  • Wan 2.1

Apache-2.0 14B image-to-video and first-and-last-frame models with text prompts at 720p, heavier to run but without a revenue cap.

  • DynamiCrafter

Text-guided image animation with looping and frame interpolation at up to 576x1024 in 12 to 18 GB, though its license is unstated.
