About

Sand AI's MAGI-1 builds a clip piece by piece: video is cut into 24-frame chunks, and work on the next chunk starts while the previous one is still partly noisy, with up to four in progress together. Since every chunk depends only on earlier ones, output can stream as it is made, and the model can extend an existing video or take a new prompt per chunk for scene changes and longer sequences. One pipeline script handles text to video, image to video, and video continuation, running a diffusion transformer with a transformer VAE and a T5 text encoder. Published checkpoints include 24B and 4.5B base models, distilled and FP8 quantized variants, and MAGI-1.1 24B weights added in June 2026. The large models are demanding, targeting eight H100-class GPUs, while the 4.5B model runs on a single 24 GB card and its quantized distilled version can squeeze into 12 GB with a reduced window setting. A Docker image, a source install path, and ComfyUI nodes are available. Code and weights are Apache 2.0, which permits commercial use, making it a practical pick for researchers and studios exploring long or streamed video generation.

Should you use MAGI-1?

Pick it when

Pick MAGI-1 when you want streaming, chunk-by-chunk autoregressive generation with strong image-to-video under Apache-2.0, and you have multi-H100 hardware for the 24B model or one 24 GB card for the 4.5B one.

Look elsewhere when

Skip it if you want the flagship on one consumer GPU: the 24B model is built for 8-GPU H100 nodes, and even the 4.5B model wants a 24 GB card unless quantized. For long videos on modest hardware, use FramePack or the 1.3B SkyReels-V2 model.

Alternatives to MAGI-1

  • SkyReels-V2

Also autoregressive and unbounded in length, with a 1.3B model at about 14.7 GB, but under the Skywork Community License instead of Apache-2.0.

  • LongCat-Video

MIT-licensed 13.6B model with text, image, and continuation modes and minutes-long 720p output without drift, smaller than MAGI's 24B flagship.

  • FramePack

Next-frame prediction that produces a minute of video on 6 GB consumer cards, far cheaper to run but image-to-video only and slow per frame.

  • Evoke

Autoregressive world model with persistent scene memory and live camera control, suited to interactive research rather than clip generation.
