About

HKUST, the M-A-P community and partner labs have rebuilt this repository around YuE2, a 3B-parameter song model from September 2026 that turns lyrics plus a style description into a track with singing and backing instruments. Its distinctive step is a symbolic plan: before any sound exists, the model sketches melody and harmony in ABC notation, which you can read, alter by hand or through an LLM agent, and pass back in. Rendering runs in stages inside one Mixture-of-Transformers network, with token prediction for structure, flow matching for the sound, and a VAE giving 48 kHz stereo. The clone installs with pip as a package imported as yue2, with stage-by-stage control, examples and an agent skill for songwriting and covers; a separate SheetSage2 transcriber turns recordings into scores, and ComfyUI has native nodes. It needs Linux, Python 3.12 and a 24 GB NVIDIA card with bfloat16 support. Code is Apache-2.0, but weights carry a non-commercial Creative Commons license with a creator clause: individuals may monetize songs, companies need a paid license. Best for musicians and researchers with a large GPU; YuE v1 is kept on a branch.

Should you use YuE?

Pick it when

Pick YuE when you want Apache-2.0 lyric-to-song generation in English, Japanese, Korean, or Chinese with dedicated 7B variants, chain-of-thought and in-context-learning modes, and have a GPU with 16 GB or more.

Look elsewhere when

Skip it on GPUs under 16 GB or when iteration speed matters: ACE-Step 1.5 fits an 8 GB card, generates fast, and takes lyrics in 50+ languages. DiffRhythm and HeartMuLa are lighter Apache-2.0 options too.

Alternatives to YuE

  • ACE-Step 1.5

Half the VRAM floor at 8 GB, much faster generation, and 50+ lyric languages from one general model rather than dedicated per-language variants.

  • HeartMuLa

Also Apache-2.0 with multilingual lyric conditioning, using a 3B model that runs near real time on one GPU, lighter than the 7B models here.

  • DiffRhythm

Apache-2.0 too, a diffusion model for full songs up to about 4 minutes 45 seconds that runs from 8 GB with chunked decoding.

  • MiniMax-Music3

Section-tagged five-minute stereo songs from a larger stack, about 24 GB at full precision, under a revenue-capped community license.
