Pinokio
Desktop launcher that installs and runs open-source AI apps in self-contained folders with one click.
About
Pinokio gives people who would rather not fight Python environments a desktop launcher for open-source AI apps. Under the hood it runs JSON-defined scripts that call shell commands, download files and install dependencies, but each app, its virtual environment and anything fetched through the bundled conda, Homebrew, pip or npm stays inside one pinokio folder in your home directory, keeping the rest of the system clean. A Discover catalog lists scripts that were transferred into the project's own GitHub organization, frozen and reviewed by the maintainer; it spans ComfyUI and Forge, video generators such as Wan, Kokoro and other TTS engines, Applio voice conversion, Hunyuan3D and Open WebUI, and you can also run your own scripts. Builds are Electron apps for Windows, macOS on Intel or Apple silicon, and Linux as AppImage, deb or rpm, with the engine shipped separately as pinokiod; both are MIT licensed and free. GPU needs depend on the app installed. It suits hobbyists and creators sampling many projects quickly, though anyone running unlisted scripts should read them first, since they execute with your user permissions.
Should you use Pinokio?
Pick it when
Pick Pinokio when you want to try ComfyUI, Fooocus, FluxGym, or LLM tools like Ollama without touching a terminal, and like having one launcher install each app's dependencies from vetted, version-pinned scripts.
Look elsewhere when
Skip it if you only run image generation UIs and want them sharing one checkpoint folder, which Stability Matrix is built for, or if you need to customize or debug installs, since the scripts sit between you and the environment.
Alternatives to Pinokio
- Stability Matrix
Focused on 20 plus image UIs and trainers with a shared checkpoint folder and Civitai browsing, but official binaries ship under a proprietary EULA.
- ComfyUI Manager
Manages custom nodes, models, and snapshots once ComfyUI is installed, finer control inside one app rather than installing many different apps.
