About

Maintained by GitHub user bmaltais, this project puts a browser interface over kohya-ss's sd-scripts, the widely used command-line trainers for diffusion models. Each tab exposes training parameters as form fields, then assembles and runs the matching accelerate command. Methods include LoRA with its LoHa and LoKr variants, DreamBooth, full fine-tuning, textual inversion and LECO concept erasure, plus masked loss, preview images rendered while training and GPU selection. Base models range from SD 1.5 and 2.x, SDXL and SD3 to FLUX.1, HunyuanImage 2.1 and Lumina Image 2.0. A config.toml prefills model, dataset and output paths, and a headless flag makes the app safe on remote GPU boxes over SSH. Windows is the primary target, installed with uv or pip, Python 3.11 and the CUDA 12.8 toolkit; Linux is kept working by community contributors and macOS may not cooperate. An NVIDIA GPU is required, memory needs depend on model and method, and Docker, Runpod and Colab routes exist for anyone without one. Apache-2.0 licensed. Aimed at hobbyists and small teams training custom styles or characters without memorizing CLI flags.

Should you use kohya-ss GUI?

Pick it when

Pick kohya-ss GUI when you train SD 1.5 or SDXL LoRAs, DreamBooth models, or full fine-tunes on Windows with an 8 GB or larger card and want the sd-scripts options laid out in forms instead of command lines.

Look elsewhere when

Skip it for video model LoRAs, which sd-scripts does not cover, where Musubi Tuner or diffusion-pipe fit, or if its dense tabs overwhelm you, since FluxGym is a shorter path to a FLUX LoRA. Linux and macOS support is community maintained.

Alternatives to kohya-ss GUI

  • Kohya-ss

The underlying sd-scripts used directly, scriptable for batch runs and repeatable configs, but command line only with no forms to guide settings.

  • OneTrainer

Lists newer and video targets this GUI lacks, such as Qwen Image, FLUX.2, and Hunyuan Video, with a command-line mode too, but under AGPL-3.0 rather than Apache-2.0.

  • FluxGym

Same Kohya backend with a much simpler flow and one-click Pinokio install, but built around FLUX rather than SD 1.5 and SDXL.

  • AI Toolkit

MIT trainer with a job queue web UI and video model support, but its example configs are aimed at 24 GB cards versus the 8 GB floor here.
